Welcome to the  Mercian Heritage Group  web site.

The Mercian Heritage Group, based in Daventry, Northamptonshire, is a collection of half a dozen or so friends with a shared sense of history and an appreciation of the rich diversity of our cultural development. We have a passion for discovering more about the inheritance from our ancestors to increase not only our own knowledge but also to share our findings with members of the local (and wider) communities.

We are enthusiastic amateurs and we use as many methods available to us to investigate our history and heritage: documentary evidence, maps (old and new), field walking to discover pottery and evidence of buildings, metal detecting, local knowledge, satellite photography, the Internet and so on. Any artefacts that we may find are governed by the Treasure Act and all artefacts that should be reported are processed by the Portable Antiquities Scheme's Finds Liaison Officer to ensure our findings are available to a wider audience to increase the general knowledge and also of course to comply with the Law. We work closely with the local communities and report our subsequent findings to provide lasting documentation.

There are no vacancies in the group at the moment.
