All findings are entered into a bespoke software package which records a variety of details about a find: when, where (using GPS and OS co-ordinates) and the conditions. An identification is then made using whatever reference material is available and appropriate, including referring to the Portable Antiquities Scheme Finds Liaison Officer.
Information can be generated from the database in individual find format and also in an overall summary report for a particular location, field, date and time and so on. All information is made available to the landowner as a matter of course.
Any location
information - the co-ordinates of finds - is kept confidential.
The only exception to this is if any finds have to be
reported, by law, to the Finds Liaison Officer however, that
information goes no further.
